GetSimple 3.1 is nearing the end of it’s time in Beta, and will soon be pushed out as the latest and greatest version of GS. I wanted to do a quick post about why we feel 3.1 is so great as well as make a call for testers to help us test all language, plugin and theme files.
3.1 Improvements
We are proud of the improvements we’ve made in GetSimple 3.1 – Here is a quick list, but you can always view the full list on our change log.
- Automatic Sitemap generation
- A drag-and-drop menu manager
- Ability to “clone” a page
- Update notifications for both the core & plugins
- Ajax-ified delete/enable/disable functions
- Internal page caching
- Many smaller UI enhancements (CAPS detection, etc.)
A Call for Beta Testers
In order to get GetSimple 3.1 out the door, we need to find as many testers as we can. Please download the latest Beta zip file, then post any issues/bugs/concerns/comments/etc. in the Beta section of our forum.
If you are a developer of one of these items – PLEASE TEST!
SVN Access
Reminder: regardless of the beta version we’ve created for the “beta download”, you can always download the cutting edge version straight from our SVN. A wiki article on how to use our SVN is here.

Sinds this is opensource, can we get a gitbhub repo?
Would be nice though!
Testing the new features this weekend! Good job!
@Glenn_b – We are already on Google Code, and I don’t feel like maintaining two repos, so at this moment we will stay on Google… Thanks for testing though!
Great job!
I hope GS 3.1 was stable soon. ;)
Thank you for your efforts. ;)
Hi getsimple team, and happy new year!
We are considering using getsimple in the future as it has page caching now (our main concern is speed :)
Our question, out of curiosity: Why are you using wordpress for your website get-simple.info instead of your own cms?
Thanks!
@eetv: I’m glad you are reconsidering using GetSimple!
We use WordPress for only the Blog portion of the website since GetSimple is not a native blogging platform. GS powers all the “normal” pages of the site though…
Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for your answer.
I started the setting up process today, some posts in the forum that I/we came across (user echteinfachtv).

Please hurry up!!!
And thank you for your GREAT JOB!!!
Hi,
what do you think about these INTEGRATED features with the next release?
- news manager!!!!! (needful for all!)
- images gallery (with AUTOMATIC resize/thumb)!!!! (needful for all!)
- social buttons;
Thank you very much ;)
AL
Can you tell more precisely when 3.1 will be pushed out? Like in a week or in a month?
Just want to say
I’m in love with this simple CMS
Tried both 3.0 and 3.1, seem perfect for me
Keep it simple Guys – and Thanks a lot
@John – I am hoping the next RC will not have any bugs, but there is a persistent problem with gps_magic_quotes that is still bugging a few people. Hopefully soon..
@wawan & Corey – Thanks!
@al – thanks for the suggestions, but that is not what GetSimple is about. We keep it simple and leave everything else up to the plugins (which there are plugins for the things you mentioned)
Hi Chris,
I’ll test it asap but how about upgrade 3.0 to 3.1 ?
Can I just simply overwrite only the admin dir ?
Regards,
René
Is there a plan to optionally use the html editor with components? Would be a great for the client. Awesome job!
@al: That’s a very bad idea.
@Chris Cagle: That’s why this CMS keeps getting substantially better every release… A simple CMS that provides the basics needed in a modern website -> genial. And everything else is done by plugins.
Imho, somethings GetSimple itself could improve are:
1 – Better plugin integration, so people can easily develop plugins that take advantage of features like the “undo” and “multi-user” seamlessly.
2 – Better search engine integration (sitemap generation is a huge step forward, maybe a robots editor with some clever buttons would be useful also)
Important things for GS itself are security, themability, ease of plugin development incl. decent documentation, search engine optimization, and low resources consumption.
Ease of use isn’t that important imho, because as long as you can get things done and the interface makes sense it’s okay, it doesn’t have to be kiddies-friendly.
Unfortunately I’m not a web developer any longer, otherwise I’d surely be an active participant here. :(
Thanks, and congrats for such a nice piece of software.
