Topic: YouTube Video Display

In my lunchbreak I discovered the new plugin "YouTube Video Display" at the EXTEND and for sure I immediately tested it at my testsite: http://www.urbanistan.de/getsimple/jetz … ube-plugin

Thanks for doing it!

I am glad that there is plugin for YouTube, but as usual I have some arguments / critizism:

  • plugins should come with a readme in the ZIP, author, URL, publishing date etc.

  • if a plugin has parameters, these should be described there in the readme plus should be available in the plugin-page (or in a dialogue from a link  in the plugin-menu)

  • this plugin still keeps the header from the Plugin "Hello World", that is misleading, copy and paste problem

  • the standard-dimensions of the video are set in the plugin itself to a very small size: 320 x 260, I whish it could be possible to set a standard-size so that the integration in the website will be easier

  • the syntax of the tag to include a video is not easy to memorize, it uses non-standard-characters as separators (others use :, this one _), if you want to add sizes, you must add _valid_450_600, why the parameter valid?

  • the version-info at EXTEND is 1.0, in the file it says 1.5 ..

Please do not take me wrong, it's just the result of a first test with the whish to provide experience to the development

Connie: afair there's a video embedding plugin for ckeditor, which brings a video button in visual editor.
I messed with it once because of pure curiosity, and it was embedding YT videos pretty fine.
Also vimeo and some other popular streaming video services.

I didn't test your plugin, but if you are able to provide this ckeditor's functionality as a plugin, would be great.
Not many users are able to manually do it.

There are some nice plugins for CKEditor and I am getting a vision ...

maybe we can develop a third toolbar, "SUPER ADVANCED" or so  in the future

I think I will start a tutorial for CKEditor and how to expand it ...

and I will try to construct such a toolbar

the need is there ...

but give me some time, the weekend is coming, maybe I find leisure for that

I am just testing the plugin VIDEO for CKEDITOR, but unfortunately this plugin does not correctly read the editor-language files so some of the labels are not translated

I will report the result and explain it in the wiki

@Connie: I don't fully understand your remarks, does the VIDEO plugin for CKEDITOR better work than this plugin? Or is this CKEDITOR plugin still in development?

@Oleg06: I had the same problem with a underscore in the code. I've changed the separators (this one _) in the code to a space and it works for me.

well I contacted the guy (or the girl) who made this plugin for the editor but they never answered
and with the actual status, I cannot recommend to use that editor plugin,

but to come back to my first post, as the YouTubeVideoDisplay-Plugin for GS is not updated since April I think that one also is not really recommendable (can you say that?)

I miss the option to define the dimensions of the video plus others as I mentioned in my first post already
