This could be done in a plugin...
Allowing different types of posts...and different versions...
Saving the status per page level and saving the page in a different folder/different name...
Would be possible without making GS more complex and adding another layer of functionality.

A definite +1 for having a draft/publish post state. This is a key function in any CMS to allow an article to be edited and previewed prior to it showing up in the public site.
