As we know date has to be manually added in template file.
Would you consider adding a date option in admin panel allowing it to be turned on/off and displayed on pages below their content ?
It would take date format from translation file ("DATE_FORMAT" & "DATE_AND_TIME_FORMAT" variables).

so maybe somewhere right near where it lists if a backup is available or not?

I think that in settings tab, below friendly urls option, would be a good place for it.
