the css in the site which you refer too is incomplete and has a lot of errors and warnings
some css files are missing

span in span is not a really good idea

I am sure it is possible to define all what you want to realize in a CSS class and add that class to the stylebox of the editor

more I cannot say and I have no time enough to investigate in so unclean code

you can accept my suggestion or not
