I went and downloaded straight from the site instead of cloning from git, and I still get the same thing changed the htaccess to read/write, and i'm still getting this error

Unable to continue: Unable to write the configuration file. CHMOD 755 or 777 the /data, /backups folders & sub-folders and retry.
