Hi! I'm not that technically savvy when it comes to server stuff, so I apologize if this type of issue has already been posted and I'm repeating things that already have solutions.
I'm trying to install GetSimple in my WAMPP (Server2go) so I can play around and test it before really installing it on my website (this worked well for me with my present CMS razorcms). My system is as follows:
Apache/1.3.35 (Win32)
PHP/5.3.2
SQLite 2
After I extracted the files, when I go to the site I get a "This page cannot be displayed"/"Could not connect to [ip address]". And of course when I try to drag index.php into my browser, it just displays the actual code.
Razorcms is installed in a different folder in the same directory and is working fine.
What am I doing wrong?
Also, out of curiosity, is it possible to just run GetSimple on Server2go and then just FTP the files to my live website without having to worry about uploading the admin to the live site? Again, asking because of what I'm used to with razorcms.

maji,
there are 2 answers:
1) "What am I doing wrong?" That is difficult to answer as GS does work on local webservers, XAMPP, Server2go etc.
"Could not connect to IP-Adress" is for sure a problem of your installation and not of GS, I think
delete the complete folder
copy the complete GS into a new folder
open GS in the browser not as a local file but as served from the server, maybe that was the error?
2) to migrate to another host? Read the WIKI: http://get-simple.info/wiki/installation:migrating

I tested again with XAMPP and it is working well under the local server
I did not test server2go, although I know that this is a nice smaller server, but have no time to install it in the moment

Try vertrigo http://vertrigo.sourceforge.net/?lang=eng
of course you have administration rights on your win account ?

Hi all, thank you so much for your speedy responses!
Connie: just to clarify, I am trying to navigate to it through the server, not by opening the local file. (I only tried opening the file itself after that didn't work)
I'm trying to figure out how I might have installed it incorrectly. I have already tried
1) Extracting directly into a folder within my Server2go htdocs folder
and
2) extracting getsimple and then just copying and pasting all the files into the folder within my Server2go htdocs folder
I tried deleting the folder completely as you suggested and making a new folder and doing the above again. Still the same thing
As for 2), sorry, I don't understand the migration ... is that for when I am on an actual website FTP? I am just testing locally on my computer with Server2go right now, I have not tried to upload it to a webserver at all yet.
yojoe: thanks for the suggestion! If I absolutely cannot get server2go to work I will try that. And I do have admin rights on my computer.
EDIT: OK, this is weird. I got it to work in Chrome. I went to http://127.0.0.1:4001/foldername and it redirected me to http://127.0.0.1/foldername/admin/install.php which failed. Once I manually put the :4001 back in it worked. :/ Well, at least it worked!

well, migration is when you have a working installation somewhere and want to move it to another server or directory
I have a vague memory that because of that port 4001 which server2go uses I once had problems with server2go as well and started to use vertigro, but that was a long time ago
I did a test, installed server2go in c:\netz\server2go and copied getsimple to c:\netz\server2go\htdocs\getsimple
I modified the pms-config.ini to use Firefox as browser
when I started server2go, I ran into problems, getsimple was not found, the server started in
http://127.0.0.1:4011
when I started server2go with administrator rights, the server opened in Firefox with http://127.0.0.1 and I could navigate to http://127.0.0.1/getsimple and the installation started
so it's more a user-rights-problem than an administrator problem
to start server2go always as administrator, edit the desktop-link (right-click, properties, extended, run as administrator, maybe I did not use the right english windows-terms, I am using german windows 7)

seems that your local webserver accepts requests only on port 4001.
Misconfiguration or you set it to work only on that port ?

Connie: Awesome, thanks for the tip on Run as Administrator!
yojoe: I honestly have no idea, it was always this way and I never changed the settings.
Everything seems cool now, thank you both for the help

maiji,
I am glad it is working now, it took me some time to install and test as well, but now we know ...
It's in the wiki now: http://get-simple.info/wiki/installation:local_server

Thanks so much Connie! Is there any way for me to edit/add to the wiki myself or do I need to go through someone like you? I tried to but it said it was read only as I'm not an admin.
The reference of "http://127.0.0.1:4011'" should be " http://127.0.0.1:4001" for the port, and I'm actually not sure that the "Run as Admin" is what helped to solve my problem. What happened is that after I noticed Chrome kept taking the 4001 port part off, I navigated directly to http://127.0.0.1:4001/admin/install.php and was able to install successfully. After that I changed the base URL in the admin dashboard to http://127.0.0.1:4001/foldername/ to ensure that the port was incorporated, and everything's been running fine since.
(Now I'm trying to upload to the live site and having problems with file folder permissions but I'll get that sorted out with my host/in another thread if necessary, lol)
