With these 2 changes it should work.
Finally, though not strictly necessary, edit news_manager/lang/en_US.php (and/or other language files you use) and remove or change the mm/dd/yyyy string in the "POST_DATE" definition, like:
(If you don't, it'll be confusing for the user.)
