cn.example.com is treated as an entirely new domain. SEO wise, you don't want that to happen.
Make them sub directories and you will gain more incoming links to example.com.
Clients always want to be able to change the content of their pages, but they are unwilling to do so.

I would like to geo target the Chinese version to Chinese search engines. From what I read, keeping the two sites in separate sub domains will make the geo targeting easier...
