Install - Folder Not Writable but permissions set to 777
#1
I was trying to search the forum for this issue but haven't had much luck.

I'm currently trying to install Get-Simple 3.1 for a website, it keeps telling me that it is unable to continue. However, the /data and /backup folders have their permissions set to 777 (and all files/folders within them too).

Quote:Unable to continue: Unable to write the configuration file. CHMOD 755 or 777 the /data, /backups folders & sub-folders and retry.
GetSimple Installation

GetSimple 3.1 - Latest version installed
PHP Version 5.3.10 - OK
Folder Permissions Error - Not Writable
cURL Module Installed - OK
GD Library Installed - OK
ZipArchive Installed - OK
SimpleXML Module Installed - OK
Apache Mod Rewrite Installed - OK

Is there anything else I need to check for this?

Hi antigen,

did you check the list of specific hosters in our WIKI?

http://get-simple.info/wiki/installation...webhosters

Maybe your hoster is listed there and you find the solution

very often the problem with permissions results from different owner and their configuration

Maybe you can you try put permissions to 755 instead of 777? Some hosting providers can put restriction on folders having this 777 permission.

what is defined in your gsconfig.php?

Code:
# Set override CHMOD mode
#define('GSCHMOD', 0755);

and there is a real important point to add:

GetSimple is a plain program with no real demanding features for the host.
Mostly the problems arise with special restrictions at the host.
For that we have a section in the WIKI: http://get-simple.info/wiki/installation...webhosters

I told you that link, did you read the wiki article???

And to solve these problems, you pay your hoster. So please ask your hoster's support and tell us their answer.

Do not always seek the problem at the progam's side, do also seek at the host's side ;=)
