I thing it will be nice the possibility to create in Files a sub folders for video or photos or pdf. So everything is nice and need.

How would you like this?

Would it be fine for all files to be in the uploads folder but then sorted by file extension in the admin area?

I wouldn't do it by file extension. Example: if company have products with 50 images they need to by able sort them somehow, so i thing if you have under files the opportunity to create new folder for images say catalog and then other folder website photos this will be better idea. I don't think you can do it with file extension.

And yes the folders need to by under upload folder.

Your idea is grate to that will be bonus to this.
