Converting theme to work with GS
#1
Hi,

I'm attempting to install CMS around the website I already have set up (to help with managing it) using this theme: http://www.csstemplatesfree.org/yiw-minimal.html

I found this post: http://get-simple.info/forum/topic/2865/...-to-theme/ and tried to follow what mvlcek posted but I'm pretty confused by what to do exactly. I copied to PHP code into the appropriate fields, I think, but it didn't work. I can select the theme in the admin panel but I just get a blank page. Also, since this theme has multiple styles of pages, I'll need to do separate template.php files for each one, right?

Thank you

1) Define where the different regions of the page should be
2) Identify the menue, the content, other parts like footer and header in the original file
3) replace these with the appropriate template tags (they are all described in the WIKI)

you are free to add your "template" to your post, so we can check what you did already and why you did not succeed

but without any information we only can guess what went wrong

Perhaps the easiest thing would be to download some themes and take a look at how the theme files are coded; you can then just copy the relevant php tags where you need them;

the wiki also shows all of the template tags;

while it may seem confusing at first, it's really easy once you get the hang of it;

and i think there is a template conversion 'cheat sheet' somewhere that has all of the tags organized;

If you use an editor like Coda, you can input all of the tags and then insert them from the clips window; other editors might also have this functionality.
