Hi,

let us collect whishes for a new default editor-configuration here!

My 1st whish is about implementation...

at least the switch between basic and advanced configuration could be included in the administration options / user profile:

there you can define to use or not to use the editor
so why not include a radiobutton with "advanced <=> basic" configuration?

Great idea Connie.

o - make the whole editor modular so it can be easily replaced by a plugin/another editor if required.

o - I'd like to see the advanced tab trimmed a little and remove the font and color options. You would not believe the amount of cleanup I've had to do on sites once the client gets their hands on these two options... 8)

o - set the line break and indent options as discussed in the other thread.

A big whish:

configuration, which css-file to include in the editor, could be an input-field in the admin

Font-size isn't a big deal. The problem stays with those, who use headers formatting as font/text sizes.
That's why I opt for hiding headers dropdown.

The biggest thing I opt for is a more frequent upgrade of ckeditor lib.
The problem I'm facing now, are <accr> and <abbr> being cut off, and split. This leads to a disaster.

btw. modifying ckeditor's options could be done via plugin.

I posted 2 in the topic for a new release, post them here:
  • syntax hi-lighting (option) in html editor view of Ckeditor
  • Specific button to put in embed code in editor, instead of needing to go to source mode

I would prefer to have the headers dropdown menu as a minimal in the non-advanced state of the editor. Should be able to enable/disable certain functions of the editor in an "editor.cfg"-file (or via a plugin).

Btw. is it just me or is there no function to add an anchor ? In the link-menu there is an option to add a link to anchor in the text. If there isn't, I would like it added.

On this page: http://get-simple.info/wiki/how_to:edito...or_options I see a section about adding email protection. Don't know why this isn't defaulted.

"Enter Mode: Paragraph or LineBreak?" in configuration-menue, not in gsconfig.php or separate file

Goind this way, a ckeditor's config plugin in settings tab should offer all possible buttons with yes/no dropdown , or a simple checkbox. Check buttons you want, choose additional settings, save config, and that's all.

I would like to see a button in the editor that can add components. So for example, there could be a component that outputs a google map. The user then can figure out where they want it, click a component button and choose one of the available components. In the WYSIWYG editor, it would probably show up as a coloured box or something, with the name of the component.

Jason,

what you want are Editor Plugins. For example the googlemap plugin.
It is described in the WIKI how to integrate plugins.

But we can only integrate options into the editor which exist in the editor. And a dropdown-list with plkugins is as far as I know not a feature of the CKEditor ;=(

Is this a limitation of the editor or from Get-Simple? Because the CkEditor plugin in WP accepts plugin buttons in it's toolbars.

Well there are 2 problems.

1. GS does not support components or shortcodes in core. Those are handled by plugins. We need to add dynpages capability to core, to insert components in pages.

2. our Ckeditor does support plugins just fine, I use several of them. Problem is we use custom toolbars not the default ones. And plugins cannot automatically add their buttons. This can be fixes by changing the way we define our toolbars. But in the meantime you have to setup a custom toolbar and add the button yourself.

Perhaps you can implement this using templates. CKeditor supports templates, you can make a template for each component code you want to insert.

your whishes are in no way related to the subject of this thread!

prefixes? Look for a theme which does what you want
Local fonts? Go to "general problems" and post there

I'd really like to see the file browser popup (when linking to a URL and clicking "browse server") remember which directory you were in last.

e.g. I have separate directories for my PDF files and my images. If I've just uploaded more than a handful of PDF files and now I'm going through a page creating links to them I have to wait for the upload root directory to load first and then click on my PDF directory. It would be nice if I could click "browse server" and come back to where I was last.

I don't see this being an inconvenience for those who need to go up in the directory tree or are switching back and forth between different directories regularly as they would have extra clicks in their workflow already.

I like the "simple things", or otherwise I wouldn't like GS ...Rolleyes

In search for a "simple way to write presentations" - say: replacement for Powerpoint, LO/OO Impress, Keynote ... - I recently stumbled over "remark.js" (see: http://remarkjs.com/#1).

What I found is that it might be useful to have a way to DISABLE the CKEditor for selected pages. This might be a flag (checkbox) to be set on individual pages, maybe inherited from a parent page, or alternatively a setting depending on the page template used.

--- snip here if you are NOT interrested in details/background ---

For the curious only here is what I did in a "Quick&Dirty-for-testing-only-implementation" in my GS-based website. (I'm a seasoned software developer [since ~1980] but have little to no knowledge of HTML, CSS, PHP ... nevertheless, what I did worked and was a matter of about an hour to understand enough about GS so that I could finally do the necessary changes. Knowing it's not particularly clean what I did, I beg for excuse or just consider it as a "proof of concept" for the moment.)

First Step:
I added another template "remarkjs.php" in the "theme" directory of the "Innovation" theme I use for my website. The GS-wiki wasn't quite clear in this respect (but I added a clarification now) so it required a cursory inspection of the "edit.php" file to understand enough of the - admittedly - simple process to add an alternative page template. In summary, it was amazingly easy to turn what "remark.js" requires into a GS-template which just includes the CONTENT of presentations stored as GS-pages at the appropriate place.

Second Step:
HTML-editing for such GS-pages now becomes contra-productive because "remark.js" requires markdown-(like) input syntax. So I hacked the "edit.php" file to disable CKEditor for pages that are based on my new template: it was nothing more but adding an

... && $template != 'remarkjs.php' ...

in the line where "edit.php" checks if the HTML-editor is enabled.

Not that I'm particularly proud of step 2, but it worked for me, though, maybe, only until the next upgrade Sad ... therefore my request, to enable/disable HTML-editing DEPENDING-ON the particular page.

Best Regards and many many Thanks to all of you developers,
Martin

I have a method of removing the editor and inserting any alternative. I'll try to post a poc soon. This will much easier in future versions.

I am not sure I get the web presentations thing tho, rather odd.

Ok I am just saying you can just customize the toolbar for these, you don't have to add the plugins themselves, just customize toolbar.

you can also create your own toolbars in config.js and then use them in gsconfig.

I know
table tools
symbol
youtube
are included

but the rest are new to me
i would be cautious of
any file uploader, could contain security issues.
