set pages to 777 when moving website

We develop our websites on a development domain. Then we move it to the live domain.

When I made changes to the content, the cms tells me the page was updated. In fact it wasn't..
I had to change to xml pages to 777. (CHMOD 777)

Funny the CMS does not give me an error message I have to change the pages data to be writeable.

Do you move the files with user privileges thorugh (s)ftp ?
Change files owner after you move them through ssh/console.
