What programs do you use to development?
#26
Development
  • Komod Edit
  • Aptana Studio (it's a shame there's no real word-wrap!)
  • gedit
  • Firefox with Firebug

Concept
  • Pen + Paper!
  • gedit
  • Freemind

Mockups/Wireframes
  • Inkscape (never saw the benefit of using the likes of Photoshop/GIMP for this)

Editors:
Notepad ++:
Could Not Live Without It

Webuilder 2010
For When Notepad++s ugly interface gets old..

Netbeans IDE:
I use this rarely for editing larger projects

FTP:
Filezilla:
Filezilla is great! The transfer speeds are lighting fast compared to smartftp, but the interface is considerably slower. Also, one horribly simple feature that the developers refuse* to add (because they do not think it is safe; meaning the developers will make mistakes), is the removal of the upload prompts. After each file edit (if your editing remotely), you must go back to filezilla and the yes to upload.

SmartFTP :
SmartFTP has its pros and cons. It is fairly fast, has a nice design and has many features. However, many of the features you must pay to use. They have several different licenses for different feature levels. Right when you thought you had bought the package that had everything you needed, you find out you must upgrade yet again. AKA, Crippleware.

Image Editing:
Fireworks cs5
Photoshop cs5

Other Various Software:
IETester:
Amazingly useful software which enables you to very easily and efficiently test any webpage in all IE versions at once.. It almost looks like a regular internet browser with tabs. However, the tabs are different versions of IE rather then different webpages (they can be both). Link To Website

Putty:
For SSH Connections

Alias Find And Replace:
This is a cool tool that find and replaces instances across hundreds or thousands of files, directories, etc..

WinHTTrack Website Copier:
Website Copier which comes in hand: Link To Website

Bulk Rename Utility:
This great tool will rename thousands of files at once, and do various other things such as change extensions. I don't use it often but it is indispensable when I do: Link To Website

HMA VPN PRo:
I could not live without a great VPN.. And this is one of the best imo. Link To Website

I have some more useful ones I'll post later

I like to use Codelobster PHP Edition
It works better with HTML, PHP and CSS code.

My coding software history software could look something like that through ages :
FrontPages/Dreamweaver (looongAgo) > WebExpert3 > Eclipse > Aptana > NetBeans > Notepad++ > ... than now :

OS:
- xUbuntu for the desktop
- ArchLinux on an old laptop
- Android on mobile devices

Coding:
- Sublime Text3 // The basecamp
- Brackets // Sometimes for quick looks
- Mousepad // For real quick looks
- VIM // When in the Terminal

Git:
- Bit Bucket // For my private repos
- Github // Well, like everybody
- The rest is happening in the console

Considering PHP but also the M.E.A.N Stack, i'm also spending time in the terminal for stuff like :
Composer, Grunt/Gulp, NPM, Bower, Yeoman, ...

Testing:
Diving actually into it, PHPUnit and on the JS side : Jasmine, etc.
