Wiki Maintenance
#26
Finally wrapped it up and did a bit of overhaul to Using Tabs and Sidebar Menus. Also, had to touch Plugin Creation, as in some examples the params were incorrect. You might wanna take a look if everything is in order. Feel free to edit as you see fit.

I need you guys to be concious of changes you make and how they affect its use as a help document.

Maybe we should make specific namespace and aliases for these.

For example settings has more links for permalink and language that link to specific wiki locations.
Ideally these would be dedicated redirects or topics, but they are not currently so we wind up breaking them.

For example the PERMALINK more link now points to a page that provides absolutely no help.
So please restore these with MAIN HEADER sections linking to the new location if you are reorganizing.

eg. permalink "more" links here
http://get-simple.info/wiki/pretty_urls

Going forward lets start to identify all outgoing wiki links from the application itself.

Maybe not entirely relevant, but I think setting footnotes for links to (not directly) relevant pages with a description where the link leads to might be a better way:
Code:
* **Language** - This changes the language((See wiki section: [[:languages|language of the backend]]))
of the site. You can download additional languages
from Extend((The [[http://get-simple.info/extend/|Extend]] page)).

Well we have thousands of installs out there that link to these pages. What we do in the future is irrelevant.

Sorry, I actually don't know exactly what you mean by that.

I mean i don't know what you are suggesting exactly, but the pages that have incoming links need to be fixed so they are useful.

What I meant is how I formatted it on the 404 page:

Yeah seems counterintuitive for a wiki. I mean that is the whole advantage of a wiki anything can link to a new section that is why camel case wiki auto linking exists in fact.

Footnotes might be good for references to forum threads or github issues or historical information regarding g changes.

Any ideas for this?

http://get-simple.info/wiki/themes:template_tags
looks aweful, lists are indented further than the details about them.

Maybe convert the lists items to actual headers so it flows properly.

I agree. I don't think they should be in the toc, would make a long list.

Maybe making some categories (like page/get_page, etc.), add them to the toc.

I think some distance between them. Now it just looks as one big list without structure.

Edit: I made some changes to that page.

I Don't really like the way it's done here either: http://get-simple.info/wiki/config:caching-function

Maybe it would read better if the h2, h3, etc. have different colors/color-tints to them.

I have updated the quick install, and installation pages, and added a quick install section at the top of it ( like basic skim info )

I also updated the pretty url page to link to permalink information better.

I gotta find a way to clean this style sheet up , it look like crap, the formatting is all over the place nothing is consistent, there is no use of whitespace. It is just awful old looking html formatting.

I think the http://get-simple.info/wiki/theme:advanced page should have a different name and maybe be two pages:
  • Partial Template Files
  • Theme Functions File
What do you think?

Yeah this isn't really "advanced" it is usually standard practice with php websites.
Modular templates etc.

"partial" is not good phrasing.

I restored
http://get-simple.info/wiki/themes
It is linked in the main homepage slide.

Please do link checks with google before entirely removing something that looks like a landing page.

Wondering how the translation is implemented. Since there are dokuwiki plugins to organize this..

It's pretty bad, they all show up in searches it's very confusing. It needs to be cleaned up and organized somehow. Volunteers welcome.

I think every wiki page should have the translated version linked with it. I think this is how the Translation Plugin is doing this.

I added common troubleshooting info to
http://get-simple.info/wiki/debugging
can probably clean it up into a troubleshooting sub section

it will be really helpful.

When you are logged in to your admin panel it will display a small red notice in the top-right corner.

Is that how it should be? doesn't make any sense to me.

That is obviously very old. Guess the whole thing needs a rewriting as we'll.
