QUESTION Why does GS recommend not using www.
#1
After having some issues with my server - now resolved I did a quick bit of research about whether or not to default to www.

i.e. at present my website url is:   http:/scramblekit.uk/review/

After reading the comments on this post:
https://www.sitepoint.com/domain-www-or-...1146939385

I could see the pros of using www.

So I changed my website url in GS to: http://www.scramblekit.uk/review/  and GS returned this notice:

Quote:Our suggestion is:  http://scramblekit.uk/review/

Any idea what the reasoning is behind this?

Many thanks,

C.

Nobody really uses www anymore, it is suggested to use a subdomain alias or a redirect

Fair enough. I guess that post is 4 years old.
This isn't really something I've kept up with to be honest.

I'll leave the www out.

Thanks,

C.

You're getting that suggestion because you're accessing the admin panel without the www ( scramblekit.uk/review/admin )

Thanks Carlos. That makes sense.
I've decided to leave out the www. based on the simple minded assumption that if it's good enough for GS then it's good enough for me. Keep up the great work you two; very much appreciated !!!

Yeah we dont really recommend anything, thats really a hosting decision. Www. Is essentially a subdomain and most people handle it as such these days in a virtual host or dns config, or a http rewrite or alias. There are many solutions.
