Both GetSimple instructions and instructions for various plug-ins mention editing the Template to add or change a code snippet.
Please entertain this newbie. What file are they talking about and where is it?

In your theme, template.php is the default page template and contains the html for the page. There may be others in the same theme for different page layouts called things like threecols.php or nosidebar.php. If you are using the default innovation theme the template is broken up into several files.
