Everybody has gone with WordPress!
DO you think so?
Ehh.. No, I don't think so. I don't think GS users specifically moved away to Wordpress. That makes no sense. People started using GS because of a specific need. They don't find that in Wordpress.

What do you think about this CMS in conjunction with WordPress??
2018-03-21, 22:04:44
Conjunction? How or why?

Well, theres a bit true in that, Wordpress and Bootstrap kinda rules the web for now ;D. But, Get Simple dont need database and you can use any theme/template, just throw in few template tags .
Soon from the Bootstrap everyone will switch to UIkit .

hi, I am looking for a better css framework. Is Uikit easy to use? I don't like Bootstrap very much? What's "info, alert, success?"
2019-03-29, 06:02:14
Uikit is not simple, it is the best framework.

Hi Kazu2015,
Uikit and Bootstrap are mostly used by a pool of programmers who work together on a project. This ensures that everybody on the project is working with the same code conformity. Uikit and Bootstrap are both on the big size, unless you know how to recompile them and only use the parts you need in a website. For example here is the Bootstrap page where you can customize and compile Bootstrap totally to your needs and leave all the rest out of it: https://getbootstrap.com/docs/3.4/customize/ However if you are an independent programmer or a one man business or freelancer, then you are totally free in choosing your own preferred css framework. And yes there are 2 really really good ones: 1) http://arnaudleray.github.io/pocketgrid/docs/ 2) https://github.com/mourner/dead-simple-grid Both are super light and fast with: a) truly fluid responsive b) unlimited break points c) unlimited columns d) unlimited nesting e) use your own class names f) use it directly in html5 tags g) use it in an already existing css framework Here is a useful read: https://dev.to/bitersen/case-against-premade-css-frameworks--3jn Keep up the good coding F.

I think Bulma is a very popular new one: https://bulma.io/ (it's not a small one though)
I recently found Mustard UI, which I found interesting. https://mustard-ui.com/

This must have good not cheap hosting, is very slow, and theme create for this is horrible ( but this know only developer ).

However, every time when I look into the log files (yes I do that sometimes), I am very very happy there is no such thing as "wp-login.php" on my site

Wordpress attracts a lot of no-coders who are too lazy too learn to code html css js and php. They buy a template from envato and then sell it as a website and the client does not even know. When the client needs serious support the no-coder is long gone selling a template somewhere else.

Sad to tell this, but getsimple now is no make trusts after check homepage, no https, no rwd template, website working problem every few months, forum everyday have a lot of spam, no php 8 support (many default hosting option in my country), github has many issues. I love this cms, i trust him but new user can feel is our lovely cms is little forgotten. Many people use this, but just like wordpress- many users can't want share some code for community (plugins, themes). Don't think about client want wordpress. We can make get simple still usable and safe for us and clients

To make the get-simple cms compatible with php8 would be possible
But many plugins will not work with php8 Is it really necessary to have get-simple compatible with php8 ? Is php7 not safe enough ?

The problem with Wordpress is also its success. And that goes both sides: In a corporate environment whenever the need for a CMS comes up, completely unrelated to the actual task (!), someone will propose using Wordpress. Usually someone from Marketing, but given the popularity of it these days even accountants propose "Wordpress" as a no-brainer solution. If you as IT step in and propose not to use Wordpress, YOU ARE the one who has to make a point and fight the battle.
The other side is that thanks to Wordpress' popularity, it is incredibly in danger if not properly protected and updated. Last time it literally took half an hour before the new install had its first brute force bot attack. That's the part "normal people" don't see. (Apart from WP being simply anal in its handling of content). No Wordpress fan here. Lost track on how many "forgotten Wordpress installs" I had to rescue and clean during all those years. But yes, a PHP8 "fix" for 3.3.16 and some plugins would be a very nice thing to have. Otherwise I feel Get Simple is perfect as it is, bringing the foundation you need to build everything you want on top. Couldn't ask for more. |
