QUESTION copy site on localhost
#1
I want to make a copy of a live site to localhost, to test the upgrade to 3.3.16. I have done as I found in the documentation:
- install get-simple on my localhost (I have wampserver), that works fine
- copy the /data/ /plugins/ /theme/ folders with their content and the gsconfig.php file

And then, if I go to localhost/my-site/ or localhost/my-site/admin I get the "This site can't be reached" message. What should I do? I'm rather new to get-simple, normally I work with WordPress.

Thanks for any help!

Karin

Hi,

To prevent these problems you always should declare a base url and a base path and components.
Because you most probably did not do that so now you have to rewrite your urls, paths and RewriteBase
to your localhost domain.

Thank you! I managed to change the base url in the settings and now it works more or less (not the pictures, but I can do without). Where/how should I declare a base path and components?

You can change the URLs manually. Migrate plugin does not change every url on the website. I use notepad++ for that.
Make a backup just in case you end up replacing things you don't want.
Open all the pages on the theme and replace what you want on notepad++.
For example: you can replace everything that begins with https://www to http://localhost and choose to replace it on every opened document (if you are using notepad++). You can also do that for posts in news manager for example.
That is also how I update all the old plugins to https when a browser detects that a link is not secure.

You can replace anything very quickly this way.
