This one is quite ok, although I tend to use my own logic based almost fully on what GS already offers.

I still find News Manager Updated by Carlos to be the simplest and most reliable plugin for my purposes, although John Stray is doing great things with the GS Blog.

I have recently been using News Manager with the NM Addons and the custom display function is very liberating. You can do a lot with it. I don't think the GS Blog has that kind of option.
