B4 seems to work pretty fine. I didn't encounter any errors.
Maybe except one. Did you revert back changes made in caching_functions, as I stepped into same problem I posted earlier (getting page's field value from cache), but this time I just switched index-header to index-pretemplate. Would be great to know which method will you leave in 3.2.1 as I'd like not to mess with getting parent's values on child slugs anymore

I stated earlier that it was fixed, although you should be using the ( empty() )code I gave you for safeties sake regardless when checking empty values.

The hook has nothing to do with it.
