www.example.com/index - how to change it ?

Hi,

I'm considered problem with duplicate content in GS - www.example.com and www.example.com/index has the same content. Google indexes only www.example.com/index and www.example.com is not in index. How can I avoid it ? I tried to do something with .htaccess and 301 redirect but I couldn't. Thanks for any help.

what version are you running? I think it was 1.6 or 1.7 that fixed this.

I've got latest version now and still example.com and example.com/index point to the same page.
It can be dangerous for my site because example.com which has many backlinks is not in the google index because of the example.com/index page which is indexed. Why the address of the main page is not example.com ? What's the reason of this approach ?
