Installing on Xampp : Error 500, AddDefaultCharset not allowed here

I installed Xampp and I tried to set-up a GetSimple installation.

I got pass the initial set-up (website name, username and password), but when I tried to login, I got a Error 500, which the error log tells me is

/simple/.htaccess: AddDefaultCharset not allowed here

I supposed I have to set-up that override in the configuration file somewhere, but I am not sure where...

Can anybody help me?

interesting, it is already set in php as well, so you can remove it.
curious why your apache is throwing that, it has never come up before.

What apache version?

Your xampp is probably set to AllowOverride None
specifically FileInfo I think

you will probably get more errors on the indexes also
