Help! I love this app. But......
#1
This is a great CMS. I should know: I've tested hundreds of them. It even beats some of the commercial ones.

But the lack of any kind of variety on the themes is killing me. Just today I needed a GetSimple theme that has a vertical menu. I think there's one in the entire country. Whew, I had to move on to an inferior CMS and copy as best I could, just because of a greater variety of themes.

Don,

where is the lack of variety in themes?

Well, this is not WP, but there are a lot of themes, did you ever test Pixel Studio for example?
This shows what can be done and how flexible it is

On the other hand it is really easy to port templates to themes...

set the menu in the sidebar and you are done. I did this for the theme canvass where I am working on in the moment, (http://www.urbanistan.de/getsimple415)
it's a port from www.freecsstemplates.org and I added even a multilevel menu in the left sidebar

so what are you complaining? You can ask for help, there is no need to use "inferior CMS" (which one?)

I cannot follow your logic and I doubt that you tested hundreds ;=) (I tested around 30 in my long life ....)

Well, maybe hundreds of templates and 20 or so CMS systems. But the template you refer to has a horizontal menu. I need a vertical. I took about two hours to try to convert Simpletheme, which has a vertical menu, to the design I needed but I'm just not that talented a programmer, so I gave up in the end.

The lack of free themes is not a knock on get simple though. We are a fairly new community with a lot of upside and potential. Too bad you didn't stick with us.

I'm still with you. i'v got two sites using your software. But the one site (www.thomaskochguitar.com) needed a vertical menu and that entailed a ton of work. I still may use GS on that site, though. What I've got done so far looks a lot nicer than what's out there now.

Don, a ton of work to place the menu in the sidebar? And add some CSS for that? This is not true

I can send you the canvass theme which I use, it is not complete as I did not add all pages for all plugins which I include, but it is so simple... as I wrote above

and: when you succeeded in creating a theme, please add it to the extend section here... so the stock will grow and the complains will decrease ;=)

I work now two weeks with GetSimple and it is very easy. Themes are nice for inspiration but to build something for your self is the most satisfaction you can get.

I'm in a trail period with getsimple and it is not only for small websites, i'm building now two small ones and i build them so as i think it may be. Once you have created a site, copy everyting for a new site and put a new layout in to it and change some css work and you are ready to go.

For me there is no need for more themes, plugins is something else buit if there is a great plugin why need you 10 of them?!

Feel free to contribute themes that you think are missing. If you want some help, asking for hints will probably be more productive than just complaining that your requirements aren't instantly available.

And then you'll know how to do it and GetSimple will have a richer range of themes available for the next person. Everybody wins.

Hey, leave the guy alone.
What he says is in part true. Some other small projects like Frog CMS or even Pluck CMS have a lot more templates to choose from. And those cms are somehow similar in complexity and features.

And, there are a few GSthemes but it is a pain to pick one because either they do not have preview images, which is realy bad, or they are on the forum, but they are not listed in extend section, like simple theme, for example.

GetSimple Themes, are very simple to make/transport/implement .

However, for a non html/php user, the lack of templates may be a good reason to pick another CMS.

Since this is a opensource project, there is no "instant solution".

Some things can be done:
1. Make proper thumbnails for every theme.
2. Put all the themes from the forum on the Extend Page.

This should be done by the theme creators, with a litle push form project seniors.
