I agree with badcat. Even on a localhost setup, it sends out the ping.
Here is my suggestion.
1. Click Generate Sitemap.
2. Javascript Popup. "Do you want to send your sitemap to the search engines?"
3. Click yes to ping. Click no to not ping.
