Help with local server setup
#1
Hi all,

I have installed a LAMP server and have a simple website up and running. I'm now trying to setup a simple CMS system for managing my site. GetSimple CMS seems to fit the bill, however, I just can't seem to make it work. Please note, I'm a nOOb to anything web related.

The situation when I try to activate the GetSimple CMS install.php script file is as follows.

When I go to http://localhost/ via my browser I get my index.html (the main page of my website) and cannot navigate to The Getsimple_3.1 folder. If I go to http://my_tld_name/GetSimple_3.1, The install.php file is immediately downloaded to me and apache displays to my browser an Object Not Found Error 404 page.

I'm positive I have some setting wrong but just cannot seem to figure it out. Apache, and PHP both seem to be running fine. Phpinfo() show SimpleXML is enabled.

If you need config files, etc. let me know and i'll post them.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Steve N.

Steve, if you run it on a local server, it is so simple... just as washing dishes ... ;=)
believe me, I have 13 different installs at my local server in the moment

read here and follow the steps:

http://get-simple.info/wiki/installation:local_server

that's why we have a wiki;=)

by the way:
"http://my_tld_name/GetSimple_3.1," <= a TLD (Top Level Domain) is never on a local server, I am sure you mean the local server, 127.0.0.1 or localhost

good luck, Connie

First off what operating system are you using, because LAMP stands for Linux...,
If you go through this forum you will find plenty questions about WAMP problems.
If you need to develop your websites on localhost, go with virtualmachine, small linux distro and a true LAMP environment. This will save you alot of troubles if you are using windows OS.

ps. try with http://127.0.0.1/your_GS_installation_directory
and make sure your *AMP config is right.
Addons: blue business theme, Online Visitors, Notepad
