Turning off updates alert

Is there a way to 'turn off' the updates alert. I have two customers who only go to their stable site using version version 3.2 GS, once every six months. Typical of low tech users their was absolute blinding panic, and the 'world had come to an end' when they noticed the exclamation on the support tab and the demand to update!

I do not give them ftp access (because it would be the end of the world as the remove everything and anything!)

In their case it is appropriate to continue to use the 3.2 with the fleet of plugins.
