New guy here. Thanks for having me.
I want to use GS as a bolt-on to an established site for blogging purposes.
Installation went OK. Now I need to tweak, or create a "theme" to match the original site.
Specifically, I'd like to display the site's header & footer, determine exact widths for posts and sidebar, and create custom content for the sidebar ...as well as displaying archive posts in the sidebar.
Is all this possible with GetSimple? ...and if so, what's the best way to get started?

Welcome.
Sorry to be brief. It's late now.

Thanks - I've been on that page for over an hour. It's "less" than helpful.
Should I first create a dummy page for how I want the GS template to look, then somehow piece all the code together?
Creating a GS template is probably old hat to experienced GS users - my questions likely seem redundant.
Just looking to get a leg up.

Creating a theme is just like creating any webpage, just add in the 3 main function where you need stuff inserted.
That tutorial is really a walkthrough for that theme, as a learn by example.
For actual themeing information see
http://get-simple.info/wiki/themes:creation
There are even some skeleton framework themes in extend, as well as html5 boilerplates and even a bootstrap etc.

Hello, I editted this page:
http://get-simple.info/wiki/themes:tutorial
So the second example has php Syntax Highlighting. Since html Syntax Highlighting is turned off you see the GetSimple template tags added more easely.
Timbow: I think it's an improvement, if you think not, just change:
<code php> in <code>

@visible - If you are still stuck let us know. Also someone was reporting the text from the wiki could not be copied and pasted correctly ( double quotes were coming over wrong ) so check that maybe.

Ok I changed it again. I think it is easier now to see the sections (header, footer, etc) with their content. I also shortened some of the lines (mostly removing empty space) so they can be better viewed on the page. See if you like it, otherwise revert back. If you like it, can you give it a quick check if it's still valid?
Problem with the <code> tag is that it's impossible to style it. So if you want to have certain text to be red or another color, it isn't possible between <code> and </code>.
