Free to use images. Where do you find them?

What is a good source for images for themes and websites?

Where would I find for instance generic business type imagery be it smiling suits with laptops or icons of plumbers tools which I can use without worrying about copyright issues.

Good find! I am slowly redesigning my business site. I am going to use some of these. My google position is really bad, so I am doing a complete redesign. My pagerank is really good from distributing themes, but it doesn't translate into position at the moment.

Personally I think your website is a bit off on text versus images. The 3 blocks on the bottom with read more under it are mostly out of my view (1680x1050).

Also, i doesn't seem responsive yet, although the text says that's what you make: Responsive websites.

Doing my own site is harder than anyone else's. I am a really bad client - demanding, indecisive, new ideas that change every week - and I don't even pay on time.

You are right it is out of date, and I wasn't that happy with it when I did it. Do you think more images and less text, then? I am making a scrolling one-page site.

What I am finding particularly frustrating is that I am getting really bad google positioning and I cannot find out why. I thought for a while it was to do with the .biz thing and not .uk causing geographical misplacement but no, then I thought I had coded the 'Read More' extracts in such a way that I was getting penalised for cloaking hidden content, but no. My pagerank from GS themes with links to my site is such that I should be at the top of the results if I have the right words in place. It's embarassing. At least nobody sees it, lol.

My opinion: the first (landing/index) page should have a good configuration of images-content (images/slideshows/video) and text in the first view before scrolling. If you make smaller blocks, they might be easier to move into place in smaller windows. For example a top tekst, + shorter text in left, two images/slider in right.

Have you checked your site with nibbler?

Thanks for Nibbler. I hadn't used it but had found a similar tool. It reports a lot of small issues, but nothing which would explain why for some search terms I was appearing at say 280th, below the site of a taxi company which has 'Web Design by Joe Bloggs' in the footer.

Obviously searching for businesses who say they can do SEO is going to be highly competitive, and the search may be complicated because 'Web Design' is in every site' s footer, but still I suspect there is something I have missed.

New site nearly ready. We will see what changes it brings. Working on getting the right words in not too much text atm.

Through all reply here i got nearly 10 best websites for free Images. Is it royalty free Images ? So i can use these images without knowing Websites owners. I have 2 websites on online training. I want Education images.

How about Wikimedia Commons (WC)?

They have an abundance of photos, quite a few svgs, and a lot more. Not everything is of professional quality, but by far enough to justify checking it out.

All contributions to WC are made under some open license, mostly CC-BY-SA (see http://creativecommons.org/licenses/ for details). So, usually you will have to put a link to WC somewhere.

Wikimedia is an excellent resource. You won't find 'art' photography there ( although you will find lots of art ). Very good for blog illustrations. I have often just linked to the file on wikimedia and I have never seen the link fail.
