As you might guess, I am a neebee to GETSIMPLE.

I have a client that I have been helping with SEO work but their host service / web developer is very difficult to deal with for the changes I request.

My ideal situation is to absorb that web management responsibility myself and just import what they have into GetSimple.

Am I asking for too much or is this a possible solution?

1) If you ask to solutions maybe you mean a converter, if so you should tell us from which system, but I can tell you that there are no tools for converting f.e. from Wordpress

2) if it is plain HTML or dynamic html as well, you will have to copy and paste the text into the editor

"just import" is not available, all these conversions with any system are always work

about a script for GS2 that could be run ont he server and create the GS files. Not sure if it would even work in a GS3 system.
